Acupuncture Makes Me Feel Oh SO Good!

Today I had a chance to experience an acupuncture treatment by Dr. Eyal Lebel (TCM), Doctor of Chinese Medicine and Master Herbalist.

For those of you not accustomed to how  acupuncture works, here is the ultra simplistic version..

Acupuncture uses tiny needles to release blockages of vital energy, ‘“qi”, along meridians that connect the different organ systems in the body, like the liver or lungs etc. Blockages lead to imbalances in the body. An imbalance in the flow of qi throughout a meridian is how disease begins.  Acupuncture stimulates the release of pain-relieving endorphins and influences the release of neuro-transmitters, substances that transmit nerve impulses to the brain.  Acupuncture is used to regulate hormonal systems in the body and used with great success for the treatment of PMS and menopause-related symptoms.  It also works to relieve pain, anxiety, depression and much, much more.

I found Dr. Lebel very personable and his approach extremely thorough.  A good treatment is more than needle sticking.  His diagnosis included a detailed health history form, questions regarding health concerns, lifestyle habits, diet, emotions, sleep, menstrual cycle, temperature, an inspection of my tongue, a checking of my pulse and lots of really interesting information.

Did you know that the pulse gives an indication of the qi state of the body?  It also can give knowledge of deficiencies in different organ systems.  I also learned that the tongue can alter appearance with many physiological changes in the body.  There are 3 distinct things a TCM looks at.  The size and look of the tongue, the coating and the regional analysis.  Apparently a normal tongue is pinkish-red and has a very thin clear coating.  When the coat gets thick, it is a sign of a digestive system that is imbalanced.  Teethmarks on the edge of the tongue shows deficiency from anything that weakens the body such as poor sleep, digestive issues or recovering from illness.

Dr. Lebel has extensive knowledge and experience and has even taught Acupuncture and TCM at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in New Westminster.  I am more than confident that he can help you with any health issue or even just to help you relax more.
