Journalist, Bill Weir, Finds Health Problem on Routine Story

Journalist, Bill Weir announced some personal health news this week.   While on assignment reviewing illness prevention and undergoing a CT Scan for the report, it was discovered that he was at risk of suffering a major heart attack.  California doctor, Dr. David Angus, who treated Steve Jobs and Lance Armstrong, and is currently promoting his book, “The End of Illness”, performed the scan finding a blockage in the main artery of Weir’s heart. Weir was subsequently told that had he left it untreated, he may not have survived more than 5 years.  Angus’ book is being called the holy grail of ending illness, not by “treating” but by “preventing” it in the first place.

On another note, Paula Deen, Food Network’s jolly and proud creator of the hamburger on glazed donut bun, told TODAY.com last year that she couldn’t do without butter or a deep-fryer.  She was called out by fellow food personality Anthony Bourdain in a TV Guide article for being “the worst, most dangerous person to America,” who “revels in her unholy connections with evil corporations” and is “proud of the fact that her food is f—ing bad for you.”

Deen is now under fire because of breaking news of her Type II Diabetes that she has knowingly kept the secret (for 3 years) from everyone watching her show.  (Big surprise there Paula….)

Why do we find it so difficult to examine our personal lifestyle until we receive feedback that comes too late?? Surely prevention has to be an easier route.  Staying away from too much food in general, processed food, refined carbohydrates, sugar and too much alcohol is paramount.  Learning to handle stress, getting enough good quality sleep and staying active along with getting regular exercise follows close behind . Even if you look at the genetic component of these conditions, there is a “lock” and a “key”.  You may have a familial predisposition to a condition but don’t let that sway your thinking that you can’t do anything about it!

“I didn’t realize that I had a predisposition genetically for this sort of thing, and because I ate everything I ever wanted, I was slowly killing myself. So it was a stunning, life-changing moment,” Bill Weir said.

Yes, a life changing moment…..
