Face it. There is no doubt that we are an integrated system. We need to take care of our health in the same way. Whether you are facing troubles with your gut, hormones or your immune system it all has a gut link!

One of the most common reasons for hormone imbalances such as PMS, hot flashes, low testosterone, weight gain, low libido, depression, poor concentration, fatigue, insomnia resides in the gut.

Don’t fool yourself guys. I am talking to you too!

Here is the obscure link in….

If you have had long-term digestive tract issues, you also have gut inflammation. This inflammation drives your level of cortisol (your natural defense against inflammation) upward and drives down your levels of the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. Just like clockwork. The more gut inflammation you have, the more cortisol gets used up and the lower the estrogen and progesterone go. When these hormones are in flux, we feel “hormonal” and crappy!!

After cortisol has been helping out for so long (putting out the flame) you get to the point where your adrenals can’t respond like they used to. Problem is, cortisol also regulates the important secretory IgA (sIgA), our first line of defense against pathogens and foreign invaders – think allergies, infections, parasites, yeasts. We need this for a healthy immune response in the gut. As cortisol fails, the immune response in the gut fails and then the gut problems get worse. All of this makes the hormones go bust…

In a nutshell, when our cortisol goes bonkers, our hormones and gut do too. Then when our guts and hormones go south, our adrenals do too. See the connection?
